Ford Sales Slip 6.6% in Third Quarter on Product Transitions

Ford sold fewer cars in the U.S. in the third part of 2026, with 509,764 cars sold, which is about 6.6% less than last year. They said this was partly because they stopped making some models like the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair.

When you don’t count those, Ford’s total car sales stayed pretty much the same. The whole U.S. car market also went down about 1% that quarter. Ford’s trucks did really well. Sales of trucks like the F-Series went up slightly, by 0.5%, to 315,112 trucks. The Super Duty trucks had their best quarter in 19 years, with 110,275 made.

The Ford Maverick also sold a lot more, about 20% more than last year, with 41,970 sold. The hybrid Maverick sold 27,793 units, setting a new record. The Ford Bronco SUV sold very well too, with 38,020 sold in that three-month period, which was a record. So far this year, nearly 115,000 Broncos have been sold.

More Explorers were sold too, and off-road models are becoming a bigger part of Ford’s sales. However, sales of electric cars dropped a lot. They sold 80% fewer electric vehicles than last year, partly because they stopped making the F-150 Lightning.

The Mustang Mach-E had only 5,574 sales, which was 72% less, and the E-Transit van sold just 184 units, down 57%. More people are interested in hybrid cars now because gas prices are higher, making hybrids more attractive.

The car market in the U.S. is tough right now because cars are expensive, and many people find it hard to afford them. Even though loan rates are lower, high prices and low trade-in values make monthly payments high.

Ford also had a small problem with parts that slowed down making the F-150 near the end of September. They expect this to only cost a little money, within what they already planned for the year.

Even with fewer cars sold, Ford said lots of people still want their trucks, SUVs, hybrids, and sportier cars as 2026 comes to an end.
