Mexico witnessed a fresh wave of violence after reports emerged that federal forces carried out a major security operation aimed at the leadership of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the country’s most powerful criminal organizations.
According to preliminary information from security officials, the operation was conducted in western Mexico and focused on locating high-ranking members of the cartel. While authorities have not released full details, unofficial reports suggest the mission may have targeted Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” the group’s elusive leader.
Following the operation, several municipalities in Jalisco experienced road blockades, burning vehicles, and armed confrontations. Residents reported hearing gunfire and seeing smoke rising from highways, as cartel members allegedly attempted to disrupt troop movements and prevent further arrests.
The Mexican government has not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the fate of Oseguera Cervantes. However, officials acknowledged that security forces remain deployed across the region to restore order and prevent additional violence.
Security analysts say that any verified development involving CJNG leadership could significantly reshape the balance of organized crime in Mexico. The cartel has expanded aggressively over the past decade, maintaining a strong presence in drug trafficking routes and territorial disputes with rival groups.
Local authorities urged residents to remain indoors during the disturbances, while federal officials emphasized that operations against organized crime will continue.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops and authorities release more information about the results of the operation.
